The United States Fire Administration (USFA) in partnership with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), completed a project to study emergent topics in Emergency Vehicle and Roadway Operations Safety.  This study, also conducted by the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA), developed and demonstrated best practices for emergency vehicle and roadway operations safety in the emergency services – law enforcement and the fire service alike.

The findings of the study are incorporated into the 2014 edition of the Emergency Vehicle Safety Initiative report, an update to the original 2004 USFA Emergency Vehicle Safety Initiative. Additional information on USFA's firefighter health and safety projects may be found on the USFA website. Further information on NIJ's law enforcement research programs may be found on this website: http://nij.gov/.
